Mid-Autumn Moon Festival

Posted by Helen on September 28, 2021

Moon festival is held on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese lunisolar calendar, it is one of the most important holidays in Chinese culture; its popularity is on par with that of Chinese Lunar New Year. The history of the Mid-Autumn Festival dates back over 3,000 years.

Barbie loves to celebrate Festivals of the World, she enjoys the taste of Moon Cakes.

She is Mattel’s Harry Potter “Cho Chang” Doll. She came to me with a Monster High Body, I switched it to a Model Muse Pivotal Body.

“Fashion Fever Modern Trends” Lea remains to be one of my favorite dolls.  To please the Moon Goddess Chang’e,  She made a Jade Rabbit Lantern out of a ping-pong ball.

Seeing hundreds of my doll photos end up on Scam sites upsets me so much.  Lets see how long it takes for these human scumbs to grab these photos and put them on their scam sites for sale.

Holiday Dance

Posted by Helen on May 27, 2021

Hello Again

Holiday Dance Barbie

Every Day is a holiday with barbie. Let’s hit the dance floor…

Holiday Dance Barbie

The dress is made of metallic fabric, the sewing job was not easy due to the rough & fragile texture, but the colors are bright and uplifting.

Holiday Dance Barbie

It took me forever to make her accessories: sashes, purse, earrings, necklace, bows… all are tedious and time-consuming jobs. but once everything came together, I felt a sense of accomplishment.

She was “Best To A Tea” Silkstone Barbie.  Her Gown is a colorful reimage of Barbie’s Vintage “country Dance” gown.

Fraternity Dance

Posted by Helen on May 21, 2021

Hello, Everyone, long time no see!
Fraternity Dance Barbie

This is a repainted “Best In Black” Barbie doll.
Barbie doesnt have to be always in Black, she looks vibrant in Colors!
Fraternity Dance Barbie

Making this vintage-inspired  “Fraternity Dance” dress isnt the most difficult job, the pain is that you have to find 3 pieces of chiffon in 3 different colors, a piece of lace, pink & white polyester linings…
Fraternity Dance Barbie
if you bought so many pieces of fabric to make only one dress, it wouldnt be cost effective. Perhaps I should make a blue dress with green & pink sashes  and a green dress with blue & pink sashes

I’ll have to get busy and find good use of all the fabrics I bought!  We may need to sell some extras online.  Barbie & I have decided to retrieve our abandoned Etsy Shop. Please come to boost our shop’s traffic when you have time:

Someone told me her “Holy Grail” is the 2012 Paris Convention Doll  “La Belle Époque Barbie”.  I took a look at eBay’s listings, the prices are ranged from $850 to $1395.  I don’t think I’d pay that much for a doll

She does look better than the recent year’s Convention dolls.

Borrowing a IRL photo from Pinterest:

A Weekend Project to save $1395.

Size Matters –shrinking doll heads

Posted by Helen on April 27, 2017

I bought this doll for $14.99

Her head is much larger than my regular dolls: (she is in the center)

I decided to shrink her head with acetone.

After reading some bloggers’ posts online, I thought this is how I should do it:  Soak the doll head  in the acetone, the doll head would first blow up much bigger then shrink, you take the head out of the acetone after it shrinks to the size you want.

However, it didn’t happen this way.  After I soaked the head in Acetone, the head blew up  as big as an egg. but it stayed that way forever, it didn’t shrink,  her makeup were “gone with the acetone”, her head remained big.  A week has gone by, I could no longer wait, so I took it out and left it on my kitchen counter –then, magic happened, the head shrank! Perhaps it shrank too much,  now its smaller than a regular collectible doll’s head.  Also, the head is hardened– its as hard as a Silkstone doll’s head.

since the doll lost all her face paint, I had to repaint it–A job I don’t like

she probably has just killed a rabbit, so you see the blood on the sword:

Here she is with her fellow wonder woman, you can see the size differences:

Too much risk is involved with Acetone,  it may ruin the makeup, it may cause head split, it may damage the hair ( Kanekalon hair does not stand the test of Acetone),

So I don’t recommend it.

Well-suited…

Posted by Helen on November 10, 2016

Thousands of people are protesting against the 2016 Election Results,  marching from Union Square to Trump Tower,  I decided not to go anywhere near Midtown Manhattan,  just to avoid the angry crowds.

Barbie’s all female-ticket  did not win the Presidency, so you will be seeing  “Barbie for President” again in  2020.  Don’t worry about her loss,  she has quickly recovered from Election Hangover and ready to move on.

I did not lose my sleep, either.  “Believe me”, the new president would NOT have any more impact on my life than Barbie’s Glue Heads have.

well-adjusted  & ready to face new challenges.

Wearing Red White & Blue,  she’s  a Patriotic Girl.

Ready to Work

Its hard to imagine the Trees will turn into green again when all you see is falling leaves… but life is full of wonders.

Barbie 2017 Calendar Girls —Jan & Feb

Posted by Helen on October 16, 2016

Have you ordered the new Barbie 2017 Calendar ? these are the design concept sketches, but Barbie probably wont have these fashions made by Mattel.  I’ll try a few of them just like I did in 2009.

Jan. 2017   Pink Garden Dress with Hat

It took me a week to make this dress.

Feb 2017,  Polka Dot Dress

Polka dots are timeless, this dress is a classic 50s style designed  by Adele Simpson

People often cry out loud for the little purse that Mattel no longer offers, so I have to make one:
