2014 Toy Fair

Posted by helen on February 18, 2014

I went to Toy Fair this afternoon. some vendors I know were not there, the show directory used to be heavy, like 10 lbs, now its as thin as a “people magazine”

I Stopped by at Mattel, photos inside the booth were not allowed. lots new playline  Barbie & monster high, ever after high dolls, which I have lost interests some time ago. There are not many “collector” Barbie dolls.

there are 3 silkstone dolls, (2 are already available at BarbieCollector.com), the only one you have not seen is the “wedding dress” –not a gown, but a dress with silver embroideries. tea length, drop waist, puff sleeves, bell skirt has little volume & looks stiff. I can tell many silkstone collectors will not like it. it’s a dress more suitable for  the Flower Girl, not the Bride.  but her makeup is very pretty, she has brown (coffee Latte) hair, light pink lips, silver eyeshadows… . she is priced $94. oh, it looks like she has a balloon head (big!)

Okay, I managed to draw you a picture of the bride:

Now… have your fund ready, I bet you want to buy some new “The Barbie Look” dolls. there are 4 brand new ones at the show, all have extra long eyelashes and wear floor-length gowns in bright colors,

I especially love Lea & Louboutin, they both have fair skin tone, Lea has raven hair and wears a black/silver shimmering gown. Louboutin has red carrot hair and wears a lime green gown, the choice of her color combination is incredibly eye-catching, she looks stunning, I would buy duplicates…

the other 2 are Aphrodite & Mackie. Mackie is a blondie,  wears a blue gown, Aphrodite is a brownette, she has a halter gown in Fuchsia.

I think these 4 dolls will be popular among the collectors.

other dolls like Ballerina Wishes, Birthday Wishes, The Wizard of Oz, Divergent… are not on my to-buy list.

hmm… I dont remember seeing “happy holiday 2014” doll, that’s strange…

the other surprise is that Tonner doll Company did not attend toy Fair as they used to. but I did visit Madame Alexander Doll Company.

the funny part: the signs of men’s & women’s restrooms were replaced with the silhourettes of Barbie’s Head  & Ken’s head.

Thanks, Stephanie! I think the Toy Fair enjoyed to have me. lol it was a slow day, not many visitors at the show, no line at the registration desk at all. The staff were so bored and really wanted to have more people to show up. some companies I know are no longer attend this show.

      • Hi Helen,

Why do you think it has become so quite? With the loss of IDEX it is a worrying sign.

        Hi, Simon,
I think all the trade shows in NYC are slow in these days, not just Toy Fair. the Int’l Gift Fair used to be the biggest in NYC and it was very hard for Vendors to get a booth, the wait list was long, but in recent years, you can easily apply for a booth. I guess the economy just isnt good enough, Trade shows are expensive for both buyers & vendors, hotel, booth, transportation… with all the modern hi-tech, people may have found better ways to communicate and expend business. But I went to the Toy Fair on the 3rd day, it was closing to the end, so, it was slower than the opening day for sure.

Helen, what about Gone with Wind dolls? Did you see them? And Ballerina Wishes was classic blue-eyed blonde? Thank you.
