This dress is designed to celebrate Moon Festival or Mid Autumn Festival one of the most important holidays in China (on the 15th of the 8th lunar month), it falls on Sept. 22nd this year. the festival is very much like “Thanksgivings” in united states.
the fabric is so Chinese and symbolic: Full Moon in the dark blue sky, laurel blossoms, and singing bird… well, if you are intersted in the meanings of all these stuffs, you may google for answers. but I’ll tell ya the story of Laurel tree:
A young taoist by the name of Gang Wu wished to learn to become an immortal, but he did not try his best. The Jade Emperor was furious, and decided to punish him. The Emperor created a laurel tree on the Moon. Gang was asked to chop it in order to become an immortal. Gang tried to chop the tree but, however, the tree healed itself after each blow. Gang was then forced to attempt to chop the tree forever… The shadows on the Moon are said to be created by the Laurel… and people often see Gang chopping the tree when they celebrate the moon festival under the full moon….some Moon cakes are delicately-stuffed with Laurel blossom
Acutally, this dress is made for my “Food & culture” Barbie Doll Swaps, I need to make Mooncakes for Barbie as well.
