Doll Resolutions for Year 2009

1. All the TNT bodies have to go. lol yep, I am narrow-minded, I just dont like them.
2. All the unwanted doll cloth, shoes & accessories have to go
3. All the superstar face-mold dolls have to go (thank God, only 2 left) lol
4. Making 12 OOAK Dolls(one per month, that should not be too much?)
5. Meeting Barbie Friends at Barbie Convention!

I will buy less dolls, but focus on restructuring & enjoying what I have now. After all, I am more a Barbie Player than a Barbie Collector. I will spend time with each of my Barbie and play with them in creative ways.

doll restoration

Posted by dollsaga on December 28, 2008

bought a Princess of Nile on ebay, her condition was much worse than the seller described, her coarse hair was matted together, her face paint has faded, and she had a cut on her chest… but I was able to retrieve her beauty. look, she is glowing!

Duplicates & Repeats

Posted by dollsaga on December 28, 2008

I can not explain why I always have the needs to repeatedly buying the same Barbie. it’s like one is not secure enough, I have to have some backups.

I have many duplicates & repeats, and I am not willing to let any of them go….

What kind of Paint?

Posted by dollsaga on December 28, 2008

I can not get a good photo of this doll, she is so pretty in person, the iridescent gold & luminescent turquoise colors around her eyes are very subtle, but that does not reflect in the photo. the photo simply doesnt honor the true pastal colors.

some of my blog readers have been asking me what kind of paint & tools I use, here is what I have:

You dont need to buy many brushes or paints. 3 primary colors (Yellow, Blue & Red) plus Black & White. you can mix colors and get the perfect shades you need for your dolls. I recommend Liquitex Acrylic Colors.

One or two brushes are good enough. you may choose Size 00000 and size 0000. Good quality is required.

In stead of Walmart or Kmart, I suggest you go to Art Suppliers such as Pearl Paint where you can discuss with professionals about what kind of paints & brushes best fit your needs.

you need sealer as well, there are 3 kinds to choose from: Matt, Satin & Glossy. which to choose depends on your personal preferences. Some people love to use Matt to seal the eyebrows, Glossy to seal lips.

2009 barbie convention doll?!

Posted by dollsaga on December 25, 2008

“In celebration of Barbie’s 50th birthday”, “my Favorite” repros showed up everywhere… warmart.com, toysrus.com, kbtoys.com….. None of them are my favorite, I would cry out loud if the convention doll is a repro… if it’s a doll with superstar facemold, I wont even bother to bring her home….

oh, Baribe, I know 50 years is a long journey, there were lots moments that made you proud and wanted to be remebered forever, but please, please, let bygone be bygone, will you please move foward? you know, repros always end up on Clearance sale shelfs, the most expensive repro I have paid was “Evening Gala” $16 at Toys R Us, even so, I still dumped her at ebay without 2nd thought. #1 repro for 35th Anniversary & Color Matic—$14 at Marshall’s. Enchanted evening, well, 2 for $15 at eBay.

Princess of India

Posted by dollsaga on December 24, 2008

Finally got rid of her coarse Kanekalon hair–ha, hair transplant surgery was very successful!

Kanekalon hair seems to tangle and mat very easily, Nylon hair isnt soft enough, Saran is the better choice. –depending on colors, some saran hair feel like Nylon, stiff as well. and some nylon hair are very soft, such as platinum blond & Pumpkin spicy.

Pretty Dolls, Bad hair

Posted by dollsaga on December 23, 2008

Some of my Barbies need to have hair transplant.

Princess of China, Princess of India & Princess of Nile are very pretty dolls, but all have bad hair. the frazzled hair just dont match their delicate faces!

I have always wanted to reroot their hair,  but done nothing yet.
I’ll start rerooting Princess of India tomorrow, wish I could finish this little project before Xmas.

I’ve chosen  chestnut brown &  caffè  latte hair colors for this prinecess.  Chestnut brown matches the colors of her eyes & eyebrows.  a few streaks of caffe latte would really lighten her face.

I cant wait to see how she will turn out.

when I just started collecting, I only liked dark haired dolls.

Maybe life is too boring or the economy situation is too depressing, I now love bright colored hair–dolls with colorful hair look so fun & uplifting.

I recently found a new hair color that is very pretty: wine.

Dots for Nuts

Posted by dollsaga on December 20, 2008

I think Barbie Loves Polka Dots

I actually consider myself a very good pattern maker. see that? my dresses fit Barbie perfectly like gloves. no wrinkls, no creases. I cant bear to see Barbie wear loose sloppy outfits, it kills me!

Lots people are seeking for free patters, I wish I could offer you the patterns I made, but I dont know how to put them online since I do NOT have a scanner!

maybe I can work out with my Adobe Illustrator… never thought of that before….
