“high-maintenance” Barbies

Posted by dollsaga on August 29, 2008

Times Square TRU has gone crazy! all the Barbies on their shelfs are getting more expensive.  The prices of all the  Collector Barbies has increased by $5-$10 overnight. BatGirl $46,  Jazz Baby $57, Hello Kitty $46, …. wow, shocked me! the Fairy Tale Wedding Disney Dolls now are $57!!! even “Barbie for President” went up from $16.99 to $19.99… okay, scared me! Barbie at Times Square are really “high-maintenance”. have the other toy stores done the same? I have to checked out this weekend.

I am very upset about TRU’s price raise.

Barbie for President…

Posted by dollsaga on August 24, 2008

Barbie has run for president since 1998, but has never get elected, How sad! she is a better candidate than anyone else!

I am going to TRU and cast Votes for Barbie!
Barbie for President 2008

I cant bear Obama’s mean face & the tone he speaks (very much like a jerk trying to be serious), as well as his downright mean wife.

Barbie sometimes gets political!

New Releases, New Prices

Posted by dollsaga on August 20, 2008

I was browsing through the new sneak peeks & Fall Barbie Catalog, the dolls are so expensive.

I have no clue why “Happy Birthday Midge” is worth $108. Mattel must think Midge’s Fans have now turned into 45, they are now richer & financially secure, they dont need to beg their parents to buy them Midge dolls like when they were kids. Oh, mine! :D :D

I still dont know how Mattel sets the price: Platinum Cher for $34.99, then, a simple Show Girl for 79.99–can you find a piece of old-styled Barbie swim suit then sew on some feathers? I can do that –I took some feathers home from last “Accessories The Show” (NYC). :D

How many times has Barbie been a Bride?

Posted by dollsaga on August 17, 2008

maybe Barbie has palyed Bride for 1001 times, but she is still enjoying it! here comes the Bride again:

I just brought her home yesterday, thought she would be a great friend of my Lois Lynn Barbie–unfortunately, I can’t find my Lynn at the moment, not sure where she is hiding

Barbie’s year of 2009

Posted by dollsaga on August 16, 2008

Barbie is celebrating her 50th Birthday. She has experienced lots ups & downs, gone through dramatic transformations, but managed to stay strong & keep young!

Mattel sure wants to turn 2009 into “A Year of Remembrance”, lots Repros will flood into the market—these may be sweet treats to collectors who grew up with Barbie and followed her every step of the way. It brings back the old good days.  but it  will  less attraction to new collectors like me. I am not into vintages,  even dolls from 80s & 90s look freaking weird in my eyes.  Therefore,  neihter copies of any vintage dolls nor replica of 80s or 90s will be on my wish list. Repros have never been great sellers in the market. –after Knitting Pretty & Evening Gala, I’m now waiting to see TRU put Campus Spirits &  Campus Sweethearts on clearance—I guess they will be down to $40 & $16.  –Sad? that’s the fate of most repros.

Corvette Barbie is a nice idea, I wish some day they’ll make Boeing 797 Barbie as well. but having a set of 3 Corvette Barbie dolls in raw? they look exactly same to me–the only difference is the colors of their costumes: Red, Pink & Gold (yellow), it is absolutely a bad idea. Mattel didnt learn from Birthstone Beauties. it’s better to consolidate the design by making a gift set: one doll with 3 alternative costumes.

Dolls of the World contiuned.  French Barbie is like the Spain Barbie–not my cup of tea.  Scoland Barbie may have a chance to take a room in my place.

“Iconic Blonde”–the purpose of this series is to Celebrate some of the most iconic Blondes in American History.  You can certainly laugh at people who make hair color such a big deal.  Regardless, the gold dress made for Blonde Ambiton Marilyn Monroe  is  pretty nice–it happened I bought exactly the same fabric a week ago. I just dont have time to make something nice out of it yet.

I have very little interests in Alvin Ailey Barbie as well, even she does have a modern looking face, I dont like her Body type. I am still trying to get rid of the Tooth Fairy.

Finally, the Wizard of Oz. haha, I bet these are leftovers,  is Mattel trying to sell the large inventory by  adding a stand that makes noises. lol –by the way, Time square TRU & Daffy’s have them on clearance Sale now. (okay, that was 2 weeks ago, I dont know if the sales are still on) I didnt want them even they were only $14.99. by the way,  I prefer “Silent” Stand that stands still but makes no noises at all.

oh, sometimes it happens, when sales are slow, some scheduled shipments didnt get shipped to US stores but still hold in factories’ warehouses, then, they’d try to make little changes on the products and give it another shot. the companies I have worked for did that often.

one more thing I have to point out: the prices are dramatically increased!  can you believe it? instead of $19.99, Dolls of the world now is $34.99/each?!

Barbie: ELVIS AND PRISCILLA GIFTSET

Posted by dollsaga on August 15, 2008

the set is pink label, but “190 boxed sets with special unveiling-day stamps are sold in Graceland Gift Shop. The 40,000 other sets without stamps will be available in retail stores later this year”

This set is now sold out at Barbiecollector.com, ebay price then goes up. I have noticed a week ago the price was still $75, now it’s $179–$199.

Why aint these bidders informative? the dolls have not been like eBay sellers claimed “sold out everywhere” , manyonline stores like this are still offering $75

you can also order them directly form Elvis’ official online store, the box features “directly from Graceland” sticker. $64 each, if you order 2, then, free shipping available. but Sales Tax applies.

Anyway, these are not my dolls, A marriage didnt last long–a bad omen if you give the set to newly-weds as gifts. lol

I do not want them no matter how low/high the price is. but the opposite story may stun you:

“Brenda Moore of Bentonville, Ark., invested less time in getting her dolls but paid out a lot more money for a one-and-only set of dolls signed by Priscilla Presley.

Moore, 59, offered the high bid of $6,800 when the autographed box set was auctioned to the fans as a fundraiser for Presley Place, an apartment building in Memphis for homeless families.”

…blah

oh, mine, you have to read the latest news about Priscilla!

Keep Thin, Barbie!

Posted by dollsaga on August 14, 2008

Barbie is Barbie, she is super thin! If you are more than twice of her size, , well, respect the way God has created you, Barbie accepts who you are, Barbie does not want you to look like her, so would you please do the same? let Barbie be Barbie, demanding Barbie to have as much fat as you do is just so idiotic.

Besides, Barbie has run for President, has competed at Olympics, has been Hollywood stars… Barbie has lived BIG in many ways, if you are not a match in these aspects, why try “body-match”?

still cant get over with it? well, well, HairSPray Tracy Turnblad is just for you. she is on clearance sale at TRU

New Arrivals: Shanghai Sweeties

Posted by dollsaga on August 12, 2008

here comes Barbie & her new friend. I bet this is Barbie’s first Trip to Shanghai, look at her facial expressions, her eyes are wide open, no doubt that she is jaw-droppingly surprised by everything City Shanghai has to offer. remember, when Paris Hilton visited Shanghai last Nov., she said “Shanghai is like future!” Now it is Barbie’s turn to tell these who feel “sad” that Mattel set a flagship store in Shanghai–”a place devalues Girls” —such BS must be from a narrow-minded small town woman who has never had chances to travel and see the world outside US by her own eyes but is badly poisoned by US Media, :D

Shanghai Barbie

Barbie’s Shanghai Friend, she is such a sweet girl. remind me of Angela. I really like her.

accessories are cute, I love the Barbie Passport. the Shanghai flagship store’s address 550 Central Huai Hai Rd. was printed on Barbie’s shopping bags.

Barbie’s Fashion Statement

Posted by dollsaga on August 10, 2008

My girls do have a great sense of humor:

1. not sure if Barbie wants to be a mother, but she did put some thoughts on it:

no cakes to add fat, a kiss should be okay!

we all know Barbie is a Heart-breaker, not fixer

oh, yeah, dont ever mention it again!

oh, I do have “no girls” allowed, but I need Ken to wear it :(

any good players out there can catch me?

I love you, as always!
