Barbie is celebrating her 50th Birthday. She has experienced lots ups & downs, gone through dramatic transformations, but managed to stay strong & keep young!
Mattel sure wants to turn 2009 into “A Year of Remembrance”, lots Repros will flood into the market—these may be sweet treats to collectors who grew up with Barbie and followed her every step of the way. It brings back the old good days. but it will less attraction to new collectors like me. I am not into vintages, even dolls from 80s & 90s look freaking weird in my eyes. Therefore, neihter copies of any vintage dolls nor replica of 80s or 90s will be on my wish list. Repros have never been great sellers in the market. –after Knitting Pretty & Evening Gala, I’m now waiting to see TRU put Campus Spirits & Campus Sweethearts on clearance—I guess they will be down to $40 & $16. –Sad? that’s the fate of most repros.
Corvette Barbie is a nice idea, I wish some day they’ll make Boeing 797 Barbie as well. but having a set of 3 Corvette Barbie dolls in raw? they look exactly same to me–the only difference is the colors of their costumes: Red, Pink & Gold (yellow), it is absolutely a bad idea. Mattel didnt learn from Birthstone Beauties. it’s better to consolidate the design by making a gift set: one doll with 3 alternative costumes.
Dolls of the World contiuned. French Barbie is like the Spain Barbie–not my cup of tea. Scoland Barbie may have a chance to take a room in my place.
“Iconic Blonde”–the purpose of this series is to Celebrate some of the most iconic Blondes in American History. You can certainly laugh at people who make hair color such a big deal. Regardless, the gold dress made for Blonde Ambiton Marilyn Monroe is pretty nice–it happened I bought exactly the same fabric a week ago. I just dont have time to make something nice out of it yet.
I have very little interests in Alvin Ailey Barbie as well, even she does have a modern looking face, I dont like her Body type. I am still trying to get rid of the Tooth Fairy.
Finally, the Wizard of Oz. haha, I bet these are leftovers, is Mattel trying to sell the large inventory by adding a stand that makes noises. lol –by the way, Time square TRU & Daffy’s have them on clearance Sale now. (okay, that was 2 weeks ago, I dont know if the sales are still on) I didnt want them even they were only $14.99. by the way, I prefer “Silent” Stand that stands still but makes no noises at all.
oh, sometimes it happens, when sales are slow, some scheduled shipments didnt get shipped to US stores but still hold in factories’ warehouses, then, they’d try to make little changes on the products and give it another shot. the companies I have worked for did that often.
one more thing I have to point out: the prices are dramatically increased! can you believe it? instead of $19.99, Dolls of the world now is $34.99/each?!
