it really is the designer’s fantasy, I dont know which goddess she is. the doll comes with a small fan, a big fan… hmmm, it looks like the designer is a fan of Asia. but that’s all he knows about Asia. I bet Most asians would not recognize this doll portraits their Goddess

Sorry, I took away her fans, she is now more a “princess of Dragon” than a goddess

I think “Goddess of mercy & compassion” is the Goddess of Asia

Instead of fan, she holds a willow branch or a lotus flower, symbolizing harmony.

New Arrivals

I received my Haut Monde, Stacey “Nite Lightning”, 2 Jazz Babies, 4 Sumatra and WaterColor Carrie.

All the dolls are beautiful except Carrie. she has a few tiny cracks on one of her shoulders, terrible face paint, I am not sure it’s a production defect or the previous owner ruined this doll. her smudged eye shadows made her look dirty & messy. I tried to clean it up, but I have never touched a Tonner Doll’s face before, and dont know what kind of color remover works best, it apparently the nail polish that works with cleaning Barbie’s face paint doesnt work well with Carrie’s. Fixing her face will be a time-consuming job.

Jazz Babies are pretty cute, I did not buy the Blonde —as I am not a fan of lara face. this Brunette & red-head twins will try out lots of my OOAK Dresses! I have been waiting for BC to put these Dolls on Sale, but they have not had. I then had to get them from eBay for cheaper.

I like Stacey’s face, but not her costumes & the TNT body. Maybe I’ll put her on a MM body.

I bought Sumatra Barbie b/c she is on sale, I wondered why she is not as popular as Diwali?! maybe her head is bigger than Diwali, BHS(big head Syndrome) is one of the things these serious Collectors Hate the most. I was okay with big-headed dolls, but then, under the influences of these collectors and the secondary market trends, I have decided to avoid big-heads

I also received a new Barbie Collector catalog, I have already had what I like to have, the rest just dont appear to be my “must-have”s. I can live without them.

I have sent my 2009 Barbie Convention Registration Form out a couple of days ago. but I probably wont hear anything back until the Summer Heat slips away.

Since next year is Barbie’s 50th Golden Anniversary, many people have placed high expectations on 2009 Covention, it’s expected the Convention will be sold out, although some still have doubts about it– none of the Barbie Conventions have been sold out for the past a few years. besides, the economy is really getting worse. hmm…what about the international collectors? it’s great time for them to travel to US when the value of US dollar is going down.

I have started making to-do lists, I am even thinking to participate the Fashion Show. There are a few dolls I could portrait well!

I may also enter a copule of other competitions as well, but it will depend on what the main theme would be set for the 2009 Convention–only if the Theme interests me. shouldn’t it be all about Anniversary celebrations? I just hope they dont only focus on Vintages, since I am really not a fan of Vintages–Ha, actually, I am only interested in the dolls made after 2000. but I have no doubt there will be more than enough for me to see & learn

Barbie broke my bank account

I bidded on bunches of Barbies on eBay, surprisingly won a few that I didnt expect to win!! my thanks to Justsnipe Auction Sniper.

I said I wanted to get rid of my Gene & Tyler, but right after I sold Gene(song of the spain), I bought Boudior at FAO, I have not sold my Tyler, I have won Watercolor Carrie (nude)… I also won the Brunette Jazz baby when I meant to have the Red-head. I am also hoping BC.com will put Jazz Babies on sale. I have seen a few Barbie dealers put them on sale. have I waited long enough?

I am also bidding on 3 silkstone dolls, I feel these girls have potenitals…

since I am going to convention 2009, I really need to restrain myself, not buying to much, but trying to sell some clutters… keeping the rooms tidy and saving up for next year’s Barbie Convention are my main task at this moment.

OOAK Repaint: Miss Barbie Brown

I wasnt quite used to the look of my #1 Barbie Repro. these pointed eyebrows bothered me. so I repainted her. after I was done, I found the original look was quite cute. only God Knows why I didnt feel that way before I started going through all the troubles. but what’s done is done, here is the new face, since she has brown hair and wears brown dress, I call her Miss Brown:

Maybe I’ll buy the Vintage-looked Repro Back some day..

for now, I need to make accessories for this doll and complete her look, I have so many half-finished projects, but I dont want this one drag on forever…

Mattel Presents: Shanghai Dolls

I posted a “Shanghai doll” blog on May 25th, criticizing all the Shanghai Dolls these doll companies made, now, Mattel has its say:

The dolls remind me of Fashion Fever, especially “Barbie Loves Benetton”– the blonde looks like Moscow, the brunette looks like Berlin. they will be released in fall, 2008–International release, Limited to 2000. US collectors will have chances to buy them at Mattel’s online Barbie Collector Store

Again, the dolls say nothing about Shanghai, you can name them after any cities.

Paris Hilton made a trip to Shanghai in last November, some dresses she wore were pretty cute, they were all designed by Shanghai Fashion Designers. Mattel should hire local fashion designers to do the project of “shanghai dolls”

Haut Monde™ Barbie® Doll

I finally decided to get her.  her price is $99.95, but I got a coupon, it saved me a few bucks. I am not so crazy about her, but she is an exclusive club doll, so I dont want to waste my chances to have her.  I sold my last year’s club doll “Hollywood Bound”, I probably will not keep “Haut Monde” either.

I really don’t like her dress,  these glittering cheap buttons drives me crazy.   but I do like the dress from “Trace of Lace”.

A Friend of Barbie—Lea

I certainly like this girl, and wondered how many Dolls with lea face mold have been made. I even thought of collecting all lea-faced dolls.
